I own the previous of version of this book and there have been some major updates including more details, pictures and an improved CCS section. However, no book, either this one or MTB will suffice for a complete review for step 3. Since step 3 is a volatile exam and can contain pretty much anything from steps 1-3, FA3 will not be enough even if it is paired with a solid qbank. My major gripe with this book just like its predecessor is that entire book is poorly organized by, which I mean for example if you are reading about Asthma and you near the end of that section and think you are done reading about that topic and now you start reading about COPD, you would be wrong because right after starting the COPD section a chart for managing chronic asthma would appear. This poor organization is repeated constantly throughout the entire book. So if the reader does not read the title of the chart or graph carefully they may associate it with the topic they are currently reading, but instead it correlates with the previous one. I know it seems like nitpicking, but it is not that difficult to add any pertinent charts, etc, to the end of the topic before starting a new one. I was really hoping the authors would have corrected this format for the new version, but unfortunately they have not. The book is still a solid read and worth buying, but not a complete review.

Given that First Aid for step 1 is practically the bible when it comes to studying for Step 1, I would expect this to be a great book for step 3. However, this book is a total joke and waste of money when it comes to step 3 studying. So much missing information, and the CCS portion is terrible. Does not even begin to explain how to properly execute going through a CCS case. Even one of the most basic tables that is drilled into our heads through all of med school (causes of bacterial vaginitis, page 279) is wrong in this book. It has the pH listed as 7. I don''t know how something that basic and fundamental is wrong and can make it through edits without being caught. Worse, its right in their other step books. How are they not using the same table? Overall, as I am sure you can tell, I am extremely disappointed with the book. Can you use it for step 3 and pass, maybe. Would I risk it? No way. Recommend other resources for sure.

Coming from First Aid: Step 2 CK (which I thought was also bad, but decent with Uworld), First Aid: Step 3 is less detailed, missing a lot of diagnoses, harder on the eye (instead of like in ck, where they used bullet points or side notes, step 3 uses long sentences with commas), missing a lot of details, and mistakes. Vikas Bhushan is not listed as an author, so maybe that''s why this book is much worse than ck?

Pretty well organized. What I don''t like is they often say things like "gonorrhea prophylaxis" or "coverage for gram negative" without giving a couple examples of which medications to use. It really wouldn''t take up that much space in the book and could save some hassle if you don''t remember what they are off the top of your head. I''m pretty sure the test won''t give you an option of "give prophylaxis". I imagine they are going to give specific examples of medications from which to choose.

very concise review for step 3. very good for day 2 prep. however lacks enough foundational material required for day 1. would suggest suplementing this with another review book and or question bank.

If you wanted a thinner book with less information than the Step 2CK book, you should get this one.

Maybe you''re already a master and only need FA for minor references. Honestly, it would be easier to add extra information to the FA Step 2 CK book because it''s got the topics that UWorld and AMBOSS cover. The Step 3 book is just the FA Step 2 CK with LESS information. I really feel that the authors might have just copied and pasted the Step 2 CK book and deleted a few pages of information. Step 3 should be the "ultimate complete" book for the Steps because Step 3 is a mix of all the previous exams, plus patient followup.

It has the same structure and format and includes a CCS section. It''s pretty concise and doesn''t include everything you should know. Think of this as a good supplement to Qbanks and other study material.
