Product Description

A child examines the many different buttons in Grandma''s button box.

From School Library Journal

The first two pages of this book are almost exciting. A boy narrator states he likes the contents of a special box at his grandmother''s house. Turn the page and there is a box of buttons--no words--just buttons. Unfortunately, it''s all downhill from there. The boy describes various buttons, telling what he imagines and knows about them--that some came from shoes or from his grandfather''s pants. A brief history of buttons appears in the back. A story about buttons just isn''t much of a story, and the grocery-store quality illustrations in dull, lifeless watercolors without detail or depth don''t help. Even the layout is sloppy. --Denise Krell, New York Public Library

My third graders really enjoyed this book. We did a writing/art activity with it. Each student chose a button out of my collection and had to decide what clothing item it may have been on at one time. They had to write a story about who was wearing the item and give details about the item. Then they drew a picture of the item with the button being the focal point. They turned out so wonderfully!!

My kids loved this book because it''s JUST like their Grann''s button box that she''s had since I was a little girl. It has drawings of all different kinds of buttons, and sparks kids'' ideas on ways to play with buttons. My kids raced this book over to Grann''s house, read it together, then played for an hour with all of her buttons. A simple and solidly good book for all of you who like sewing or have fond memories of moms/grandmas who sewed.

Fun and curious book for a 3yo. We coupled the book with our own button tin. Our daughter used the tin to sort, count, design patterns, explore, etc..

Who would have thought there would be so much rich learning to come from buttons, in a box?
